Coming from the ancient Greeks,´LOGOS´ is a powerful word with many meanings. Though it is often translated into English as ´word´ it can also mean thought, speech, reason, principle, standard or logic, all of which resonate perfectly with our fields of expertise.
A Part of a Long History
LOGOS is a fully integrated international law firm with offices in Reykjavík, London and Copenhagen. As a part of the natural development of the largest and oldest law firm in Iceland, the London office was set up by Gudmundur J. Oddsson and opened in January 2006. For many years our firm has been instrumental in the expansion of the Icelandic economy as well as being the preferred partner of a great majority of foreign direct investment into Iceland. It was therefore a natural step for the firm to set up offices in London, which was and remains the most important financial centre in the world for Icelandic related businesses. The London office has grown steadily over the years and now has three partners and a total of eleven highly qualified lawyers which are both UK and Icelandic qualified. LOGOS was the first Icelandic law firm to set up an office in London and remains the only Icelandic law firm with operational offices outside of Iceland.
We pride ourselves in combining the expertise of local partners and staff with extensive legal and commercial experience. The turmoil surrounding the Icelandic economy over the last few years has provided our team with some very interesting challenges and has pushed and tested the professional skills and endurance of our team. The projects that have been managed by our team in London over the last few years include some of the largest and most complicated transactions undertaken by any Icelandic firm.
Our presence in London has been very important for us as a knowledge driven law firm as it gives us invaluable access to legal talent and the chance to ensure that our lawyers are active participants in what can be described as best international practices in law. Furthermore we strive to have a good flow of projects between our teams so that we make sure that each individual´s knowledge and experience is shared with others. We have always had a very strong connection to the academic side of the law and most of our lawyers take an active part as scholars and lecturers, in several universities.
