Article by Kristján Jónsson
On 10 January, Vidskiptabladid (the Icelandic equivalent of the Financial Times) published an article by Kristján Jónsson, Associate at LOGOS, titled „Iceland on international markets and the EEA.“ In the article, Kristján discusses the use of trade defence instruments in international trade in relation to current affairs. It examines the rules of the World Trade Organisation concerning trade defence instruments, as well as relevant provisions of the EEA Agreement and other free trade agreements that Iceland is a party to. In this connection, it takes the particular trade interests of Iceland into consideration.
The article emphasis the special nature of the EEA Agreement and the strong trading relationship that underlies it. The fact that trade defence instruments are largely precluded by the provisions of the EEA Agreement is a testament to that, especially in the context of conventional free trade agreements in international economic law.
